Build a rental kit for an interview shoot

Plan image, sound, lighting, and support together rather than renting a camera in isolation.

Plan image, sound, lighting, and support together rather than renting a camera in isolation.

Write down the interview setup

Describe the number of speakers, location, expected recording duration, crew size, intended output, and whether the interview is recorded or streamed. Share location photos or measurements with the supplier where appropriate. Mention available power, access hours, and background noise. This gives the supplier a useful brief for proposing a kit rather than guessing from the word 'interview'.

Plan the four parts of the kit

  • Image: camera, lenses, recording media, and any monitoring needed by the crew.

  • Sound: microphones, recording or input arrangements, headphones, stands, cables, and compatibility.

  • Light: fixtures, stands, modifiers, power arrangements, and venue restrictions.

  • Support: tripods, batteries, chargers, adapters, safe cable arrangements, and transport cases.

Ask the crew to confirm compatibility

Have the supplier and the person operating the equipment confirm that the proposed components work together. Clarify which accessories are included and which are separate rentals. If your team needs help with setup or operation, ask about crew support and how its scope is charged. Do not assume a familiar brand name guarantees that every cable, mount, or recording format will suit your existing equipment.

Allow time to check the setup

Arrange the agreed pickup, testing, venue access, setup, recording, and return windows. Ask the supplier how support or replacement requests are handled during the rental. Agree who manages media transfer and confirm equipment is returned only after your crew has followed its own recording and backup process.

Compare a complete kit quote

Ask for an itemised list of equipment, accessories, operator or crew support, transport, rental duration, and exclusions. Confirm deposits, cancellation terms, damage responsibility, overtime where applicable, and late returns. A clear brief helps you compare equivalent setups; the supplier and crew should make the final technical recommendation for your shoot.
